In this multicutural and innovative program Puro teaches ensembles, bass, global rhythmics, pedagogy and community engagement projects as well as intercultural music education and embodied rhythmic tools for choir conductors. Puro is also one of the core teachers in the Finnish Orff association JaSeSoi’s level courses.
As a performer Puro works as a bass player, singer and multi-instrumentalist in various ensembles and music theatre productions. The ensembles range stylistically from pop/rock/jazz to global music genres. Puro has worked extensively with Latin American and African rhythm cultures. Especially Cuban music is close to their heart.
Puro has a master’s degree in Global music (Sibelius Academy) and Bachelor’s degree in Pop and Jazz Music (Metropolia). They have been studying approaches such as Orff pedagogy, CCM (creative, collaborative music making) and SDP (singing, dancing and playing/ Aarhus royal academy of music).
Puro has a passion towards performing as well as pedagogy and education. They are striving for creative, collaborative and corporal musicianship and teaching.
Cris Ferronato uses music, especially practices involving collective vocal music and percussion, as a possibility for transcreations, fostering nomadic thinking. She holds a postgraduate degree in ”Teacher Training in Brazilian Music,” is a pedagogue, and has a Master’s degree in History. Her master’s research investigated youth choral practice as a potential instigator of expanded historical awareness. This study can be seen in the documentary ”Moinhos Artistadores de Histórias” (Mills of Storytellers).
She qualified as a specialist in the Orff-Schulwerk musical approach (Sforff-USA) and as a Playful Educator by the Instituto Brincante (SP). She learned from Brazilian cultural syncretism to value and nurture artistic hybridity in her profession as an art/educator, choral conductor, and percussionist. Ari Colares influenced her studies on Brazilian popular percussion, as did Fernando Barba in body percussion. In choral conducting, she was conceptually and ideologically inspired by professionals such as Marcos Leite, Mara Campos, Yara Campos, Lucia Passos, Agnes Schmeling, and Pablo Trindade Roballo, having learned much in formal and informal experiences about this practice. She also learned from many masters of Brazilian popular culture from different communities and regions of the country.
Leading several children’s and youth choirs, she conceived and directed concerts, cultural projects, and shows such as ”Contrapontos” and ”Moinho Nômade,” performing in various cities in Brazil, Spain, Argentina, and Uruguay. She has taught courses and workshops in the area of music education and conducting. She directed, scripted, and narrated the didactic-pedagogical documentary about collective vocal music ”Cantarimbando”.
She is a music professor in the Music Degree Course at the University of Caxias do Sul, and at the Cataventura Early Childhood Education School. She is the Conductor and Artistic Director of the Children’s and Youth Choirs of Moinho/UCS, of which she is also a founder.
